├─■ 🕑 2.
│ │ Thought I'd cast a broad net this season and just put a TON of shows on
│ │ my watchlist. Fully expecting a bunch of them to be shit, but at least
│ │ a few ought to be gems...
│ │
│ │ (sorted by start date)
│ │
│ │ - Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete
│ │ - Dungeon Meshi
│ │ - Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijo wa...
│ │ - Saikyou Tank no Meikyuu Kouryaku
│ │ - Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha
│ │ - High Card s2
│ │ - Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi
│ │ - Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru
│ │ - Himesama "Goumon" no Jikan desu
│ │ - 30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai
│ │ - Gekkan Mousou Kagaku
│ │ - Sengoku Youko
│ │ - Metallic Rouge
│ │ - Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern
│ │ - Majo to Yajuu
│ │ - Bucchigiri?!
│ │
│ ├─■ 🕑 5.
│ │ lol this one sounds absolutely batshit:
│ │
│ │ > 30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Nareru Rashii
│ │
│ │ > Office worker Kiyoshi Adachi has gone 30 years of life without ever
│ │ > having his cherry popped. Due to this profound accomplishment, he
│ │ > becomes a wizard with the ability to read minds through physical
│ │ > contact. However, he thinks his newly attained skill is hopelessly
│ │ > lame and has caused him to dislike crowded places.
│ │
│ │ > On the way to his work, Adachi runs into his attractive and well-liked
│ │ > coworker, Yuuichi Kurosawa. Piqued by his personality, he furtively
│ │ > touches Kurosawa and takes a peek at his heart, only to find out that
│ │ > the man holds romantic dreams for a colleague at their office. Adachi
│ │ > attempts to connect the dots, but soon, Kurosawa's fantasies are laid
│ │ > bare—his coworker's perverted thoughts are meant for him! Despite
│ │ > doing his best to concentrate, he can now hardly remain focused with
│ │ > Kurosawa around.
│ │
├─■ 🕑 3.
│ │ Nothing at the moment. Not much into watching shows on a season
│ │ or release schedule. Maybe this will give me a chance to keep up
│ │ with what's new, though
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 4.
│ │ I can't say I honestly have high hopes for anything on my watch list,
│ │ but just to grab one randomly, Majo to Yajuu sounds kind of interesting:
│ │
│ │ > Guideau: a feral girl with long fangs and the eyes of a beast.
│ │ > Ashaf: a soft-spoken man with delicate features and a coffin strapped
│ │ > to his back. This ominous pair appears one day in a town that's in
│ │ > thrall to a witch, who has convinced the townsfolk she's their hero.
│ │ >
│ │ > But Ashaf and Guideau know better. They have scores to settle, and
│ │ > they won't hesitate to remove anyone in their way...
│ │
│ │ Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi might be kind of good, too?
│ │
│ │ > High school boy Tsubasa moves to Kitami City up in Hokkaido where he
│ │ > meets a "gal" at a bus stop. The sight of her standing alone against
│ │ > the white snowscape, bare-legged despite the freezing cold, captures
│ │ > his heart.
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 14.
│ Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi is, in fact, not kind of good.
│
│ Here's hoping my prediction isn't 0 for 2... ( ; ω ; )
│
├─■ 🕑 6. Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete
│ │ Just streamed episode 1 of Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete on gikopoi, some
│ │ initial thoughts... the premise is that the main character is a derpy
│ │ loser girl who becomes a magical girl, but as a SHOCKING TWIST is
│ │ that she is actually an evil magical girl.
│ │
│ │ - Huh, it's a magical girl anime. Hope this isn't just same shit again.
│ │ - Whoa! Ass and titties! Uncensored!
│ │ - Tentacles...?!
│ │ - This isn't GOOD, but ...
│ │ - it's still different from other magical girl shows
│ │ - Okay, now I'm curious for how this show plays out.
│ │
│ ├─■ 🕑 7.
│ │ Nice girl who gets corrupted by cat and has to be evil does have
│ │ ... some plot possibilities.
│ │
│ │ But it's kind of like the japonese are some distributed AI.
│ │ The AI throws-up all possible plot combinations
│ │ Then enslaves artists to make anime of it.
│ │
│ │ I enjoyed the colors and panties though.
│ │
│ ├─■ 🕑 17.
│ │ Episode 2 was decent, but it feels like this show is more concerned
│ │ about pandering to people who want to see teenagers subjected to BDSM
│ │ scenarios than it is about exploring plot.
│ │
│ │ There were some funny bits but I'm close to dropping it.
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 28. Ep 4
│ An interesting episode for a few reasons:
│
│ - a magical girl starts to doubt if the "villains" are really so evil
│ - another magical girl is grumpy and cynical
│ - the magical girls' cat friend (twin of evil girls' cat friend) is
│ revealed
│
│ I think it's possible that the lines of good and evil will keep getting
│ blurred as time goes on. There's even a chance that the villains turn
│ out to be the good girls at the end of the day?
│
│ Story aside, plenty of smut this episode, if that's what you're looking
│ for....
│
├─■ 🕑 8. Dungeon Meshi
│ Fairly generic fantasy dungeon explorer anime is mixed with a fairly
│ generic cooking anime. Neither of them would be worth watching on their
│ own merits, but this combination seems promising.
│
│ Art is nice, setting is fine enough (but again, generic). Character
│ designs are nothing to write home about. The attention paid to the
│ ecosystem of the dungeon and anatomy of the monsters is pretty unique.
│ This seems more promising than the magical girl ecchi.
│
│ For people who are fans of fantasy settings, I think Made in Abyss is a
│ more interesting current franchise, and at large, Record of Lodoss War
│ is the best LotR/DnD-inspired story.
│
├─■ 🕑 9. Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa...
│ As much as I hate time loop anime, I felt like giving this one a chance.
│ A beautiful girl has her engagement broken with a duke, lives her life
│ for 5 years, then dies. This happens 6 times in a row; in each life, she
│ devotes herself fully to different skills and arts and becomes
│ incredibly gifted in many fields. Now, in her 7th loop, it seems the
│ looping is done and we'll see how her 7th life plays out.
│
│ The world seems pretty charming and the art and music are nice. This
│ seems like it'll be a better "Tolkien-esque" series than some of the
│ other fantasy animes this season.
│
├─■ 🕑 10. Saikyou Tank no Meikyuu Kouryaku
│ A team of adventurers go out questing. One of them, the tank, is
│ absurdly powerful, but kind of careless -- his party kicks him out and
│ now he needs to find a new party.
│
│ It turns out his adventuring rank is pretty low for whatever reason,
│ but due to his old party's reputation, he gets adopted quickly by a
│ rookie adventuring team and manages to nail his first fight together
│ with them.
│
│ Like Dungeon Meshi, the fantasy world here feels incredibly generic. I
│ don't know why light novel adaptations are so dull. It would be better
│ if anime went back to adapting manga and VN instead of trash like this.
│ But I'm going to keep watching. I'm an otaku NEET, so this is basically
│ my job.
│
├─■ 🕑 11. Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha
│ │ Another DnD/LotR-esque fantasy anime this season.
│ │ (why are there so many?)
│ │
│ │ Premise: adventurer dies in the dungeon, but doesn't completely die.
│ │ He's reborn as a skeleton! Obviously, he can't just go back to the
│ │ village and ask for help -- people will confuse him for a monster and
│ │ kill him. So what's a guy to do?
│ │
│ │ He realizes that he can kill monsters to gain experience, grow stronger,
│ │ and even evolve into better and stronger monsters with enough
│ │ experience.
│ │
│ │ The first ep was pretty good. It reminds me a bit of Dungeon Meshi in
│ │ that there's a special focus on the dungeon's geography and critters.
│ │ I'm excited for more eps of this to come out.
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 22.
│ e2 was fun, this is going to be a good show I think.
│
├─■ 🕑 12. Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menoi
│ Shy, boring boy gets picked up by an aggressive and goofy girl who
│ is absurdly beautiful. He's too shy to pick up on her advances but
│ sticks around.
│
│ Yawn, how many shows like this have already came out in the past five
│ years?
│
│ At least there are some nice shots of Hokkaido in winter time.
│
├─■ 🕑 13. Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru
│ │ *sigh* Yet another romance anime with a dominant female and submissive
│ │ male. The twist here is that the guy is a demon (but still kind of a
│ │ nice guy?) while the girl is an angel (and sadistic and cruel).
│ │
│ │ Nice art, kind of funny, but the basic conceit is really... basic...
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 25.
│ I dropped Kaguya-sama: Love Is War pretty early on, but is this show
│ just going to be that, but with devils and angels? Yawn....
│
├─■ 🕑 15. Himesama Goumon no Jikan desu
│ Another fantasy world with war between humans and demons. The princess
│ has been captured by the forces of evil. In order to extract
│ intelligence from her, the devils are willing to stoop to torture...
│ what kind of torture, you may ask?
│
│ They tempt her with delicious food!
│
│ Kind of interesting for there to be two fantasy animes about food this
│ season. Good production here. But how long can they keep the show going
│ with the premise of "hey, look at this food porn?"
│
├─■ 🕑 16. Metallic Rouge
│ │ It's cool to see a sci-fi show amongst all the fantasy stuff airing
│ │ this season! There's big robots and they fight each other on Mars.
│ │
│ │ I didn't really like the "vibe" of this show -- it feels like there's a
│ │ lot of pieces that would be good on their own, but they just don't quite
│ │ seem to click together right. Hopefully fight scenes continue to be well
│ │ done.
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 24.
│ │ Good fights, big explosions in ep2, more lore exposed, pretty fun.
│ │ I liked when the robot main character threw the big evil robot at the
│ │ other big evil robot and they exploded.
│ │
│ └─■ 🕑 27. Metallic Rouge
│ Unfortunately for me the show hasn't started cooking yet.
│ This episode felt like filler,
│ nothing really happening with the plot or characters.
│ I hope it picks up, but I have no expectations for it to be better
│ than Bones' past mecha originals.
│
│
│
├─■ 🕑 18. 30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Nareru Rashii
│ Never seen any BL anime before. As far as romance shows airing this
│ season go, this one seems to have the best writing. The premise is fun
│ too. The main character has a lot of room for growth, and it feels like
│ this show will actually let him develop.
│
├─■ 🕑 19. Sengoku Youko
│ Maybe the best fantasy anime of the season? Set in medieval Japan,
│ evil monsters trouble humans. However, for some reason, a brother and
│ sister pair of semi-monsters (catgirl and catboy?) go around killing
│ these monsters.
│
├─■ 🕑 20. Gekkan Mousou Kagaku
│ Schizophrenics write a magazine about schizo topics... except, they're
│ not actual looney tunes, they have access to true and deep secret
│ topics? And now a shadowy group is chasing them down for artifacts from
│ a lost continent?!
│
│ Comedy anime, silly fun, the big downer note is that the secret power
│ people get from the secret artifacts is that they become anthro furry
│ monsters (gross).
│
├─■ 🕑 21. Majo to Yajuu
│ Action fantasy set in ?1800s Europe? about a weird couple who go around
│ killing witches. Better than the other anime about witches this season.
│ This first ep was really well-made; this is probably going to be a
│ really good show
│
└─■ 🕑 23. Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern
│ This season's mecha anime. Initially, I wasn't that into it, but when
│ the twist came in the middle of episode one, I couldn't help but crack a
│ grin and get excited. This one's going to be a lot of silly fun I think,
│ feels like a classic mecha show.
│
│ Crunchyroll is going to be late on translating this -- props to /m/ bros
│ for releasing fansubs this week.
│
└─■ 🕑 26.
ep 2. why is this so good. just goofy, over-the-top, hammy fun.
Big robots. Big fights! The Earth is in peril!
So much emotion! Passion! What energy!
This is what giant robots are supposed to be about.
